County of Botetourt Tax Relief for the Elderly and Permanently Disabled Homeowner |

Following is some very general information about the County's program of real estate tax exemptions for qualified homeowners for their residence and up to one and a quarter (1.25) acres.
The eligibility qualifications, in general, include:
- 65 years old or older on January 1; or
- permanently and totally disabled; and
- application made prior to May
- annual combined income to owner and owner's spouse and relative living in the dwelling cannot exceed $40,000; and,
- the combined Net Worth of the owner and owner's spouse does not exceed $150,000.
Excluded from the "Combined Income" is the first $6,500 of income per relative living in the dwelling; excluded from "Net Worth" is the assessed value of the dwelling and one and a quarter (1.25) acre. The maximum exemption per household is one thousand dollars ($1,000).
